Managing MARC Maps

A MARC Map is a hierarchy of mappings (general, tag, and subfield) that correspond to the tags and subfields of a MARC record. The purpose of a MARC Map is to map one or more MARC strings in MARC records to a single field in Portfolio. By default, Portfolio includes a series of MARC 21 Maps and UNIMARC Maps that it uses to extract data from the ILS. The mappings are listed in Delivered MARC 21 MARC Maps and Delivered UNIMARC MARC Maps.

The MARC Maps page lets you view the default, SirsiDynix-delivered MARC Maps for the MARC 21 and UNIMARC format MARC records. You can create custom MARC Maps from scratch or by copying the default MARC Maps and editing the copies.

After adding or making changes to any MARC Map, you will need to harvest any search sources that will be using that MARC Map for the changes to show up in the Searching interface.
